The
annual dialogue dinner organized by Scioto Educational Foundation with
the sponsorship of the Newman Catholic Center, Multicultural Center at
the Ohio State University, Multicultural Dialogue Group at the Ohio
State University, and Fountain Magazine gathered almost 300 people
from various faiths at the table of friendship. The month of Ramadan
and fasting for Muslims has been celebrated with joy. The dinner
featured a keynote speech by Msgr. Francis Tiso who is the Associate
Director for Interreligious Affairs in the Secretariat for Ecumenical
and Interreligious Affairs in the United States Conference of Catholic
Bishops in Washington D.C. In his Speech, Msgr. Tiso emphasized the
long practice of dialogue from King Ashoka in ancient India through
St. Francis of Assisi before the Sultan in medieval Cairo. He also
said “examining our present situation, we realize that event are
resounding with a voice of warning: 9/11, the Indonesian Tsunami,
Hurricane Katrina, global warming, a war in Iraq. Like a chorus of
prophets, these events seem to be saying that we need to design and
build a different kind of future for humanity.”
At the end of the
dinner, various individuals have expressed their impressions such as
Msgr. Stephan Moloney (Catholic Diocese of Columbus), Gwyn Stetler
(Interfaith Hospitality Network), Melvin Richardson (Columbus
Metropolitan Area Church Council), George Glazier (St. Stephen’s
Episcopal Church), and Rebecca Tollefson (The Ohio Council of
Churches). If you would like to request a copy of DVD-Video of the
