Salih Memecan, a
Turkish-American political cartoonist, was in Columbus for a lecture
on the Turkish-European Union Relations from a political cartoonist’s
perspective on May 8, 2008. Mr. Memecan’s cartoons were on exhibition at the lecture.
The event is organized by SEF, and sponsored by Columbus Council on
World Affairs, Department of History of OSU, Middle East Studies at
OSU, Multicultural Center at OSU, Department of Near Eastern Languages
and Cultures of OSU, and Students for Dialogue at OSU.
About Salih
Memecan Salih Memecan is the most popular cartoonist in Turkey. Memecan’s
daily agenda includes a political cartoon strip, Bizimcity, on the
front page, and a comics cartoon strip, Sizinkiler, on the back page
of Sabah, a leading national newspaper. His political animations take
place on the prime-time news program on television, daily. His
editorial cartoons have appeared in major US newspapers including the
Washington Post, San Francisco Chronicle, the Baltimore Sun, and the
Philadelphia Inquirer. He currently submits illustrations to the New
York Times. Memecan received his Ph.D. in architecture from the
University of Pennsylvania as a Fulbright scholar (1983).
